Why The 1500 Lab exists

The origin

It started by accident. I was a broke college student who happened to be acing English and math, and some family friends asked if I'd help their kids prepare for the SAT because they didn't trust anyone else with it.

So I took on a group of five, and I did the obvious thing. I gave them the standard books, the same strategies everyone uses, the same methods every tutor hands out. I was sure it would be easy.

It barely worked, and that bothered me enough to keep pulling at it.

I kept tutoring through university, working with more and more students, and I kept seeing the same pattern. These teens were smart, hardworking and capable, and they were stuck inside a way of preparing that never taught them how to think under a clock, how to read what the questions were really asking, or how to treat the SAT as its own strange game with its own rules.

They were being handed the same advice as everyone else, and blamed when it didn't work.

That's when it clicked. This was never a student problem. It was a structure problem. The preparation was built for an "average student" who doesn't exist, and it ignored the specific reasons each teen was actually losing points.

What came out of it

So I built the thing I couldn't find. A way of preparing that starts by finding exactly where a student is losing points, before teaching anything, then fixes only what's costing the score.

Over the years, and hundreds of students later, that became The 1500 Method and the framework underneath it, the Eight Leaks.. the eight ways every teen loses points on the SAT, and how to work out which ones are theirs. It's why students who were "stuck" for years jump two and three hundred points once someone finally looks in the right place.

The team

I don't do it alone anymore, and that's the point. Every tutor here has scored in the top percentile of the SAT themselves, and has taken other students through the same jump.

Why it still matters to me

I remember watching a kid decide they weren't smart enough, when the truth was that nobody had shown them what was actually going wrong. That's the whole reason this exists. The score opens doors.. the colleges, the scholarships, the career. But the part I actually care about is the moment a teen realizes they were capable the whole time.
